Today we celebrated the life of Michael Roland O’Connor
(December 8, 1923 – January 16, 2016).
I did not know Mike, as he was known by, but I know his son and his daughter in law. Glenn spoke at his father’s funeral today. I’m not sure I could have done that. He spoke so eloquently and loving towards the man who longer lives on earth but is celebrating with his wife and eating ‘nana pudding that he no longer has to share.
As the preacher spoke today he said that Mike “ended well.” He spoke of 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 and how Mike lived the words of this well known scripture.
Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not want what belongs to others
It does not brag
It is not proud
It is not rude
It does not look out for its own interests
It does not easily become angry
It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs
Love is not happy with evil, but is full of joy when the truth is spoken.
It always trusts – hopes – and it NEVER gives up.
Mike made his advanced reservation for heaven and lived a life that his family could and did speak so highly of. He was loved. That was very obvious. He was buried with military honors and as the bugle played taps…..I cried. Not only for the loss that my friend will now have to make a new normal but for the men and women that serve our country and protect us all.
As I stood next to my son singing How Great Thou Art it resinates how we never take advantage of the time we have on earth. Love well and don’t hesitate to make your advanced reservation in heaven.
Glenn hopes to be like his Dad, and after today, he has some pretty big shoes to fill.
Love,
C
